이른 새벽 명상의 시간에 옛 성현의 말씀을 되새겨 본다

明心寶鑑 正己(Good Manner) 編 紫虛元君 誠諭心文에서

福生於淸儉하고

복은 청렴하고 검소한데서 생기고

Good fortune comes from honesty and frugality.

德生於卑退하며

덕은 자신을 낮추고 겸손한 데서 생기며,

Virtue comes from humbling oneself and being modest,

道生於安靜하니라.

도는 편안하고 고요한 데서 생기니라.

Morality comes from being peaceful and quiet.

優生於多慾하고

근심은 많은 욕심에서 생기고,

Anxiety comes from great desires.

禍生於多貪하고

재앙은 많은 탐욕에서 생기고,

Mistakes comes from great greediness.

過生於輕慢하고,

실수는 경솔하고 교만한 데서 생기고,

Mistakes comes from carelessness and pride.

罪生於不仁이니라.

죄악은 어질지 못한 데서 생겨나느니라.

Evil comes from not being kindhearted.

戒眼莫看他非하고

눈을 조심하여 남의 그릇됨을 보지 말고,

One's eyes always should be careful not to see the wrongs of others.

戒口莫談他短하며

입을 조심하여 남의 결점을 말하지 않으며,

One's lips should be careful not to talk of the flaws of others.

戒心莫自貪嗔하고,

마음을 조심하여 스스로 탐하거나 화를 내지 말고,

One's mind should be careful not to be recklessly covetous and get angry.

戒身莫隨惡伴하라

몸을 조심하여 나쁜 친구를 사귀지 말라.

One should be careful not to make relationship with a bad friend.

敬尊長奉有德하며,

덕 있는 사람을 우러러 받들며,

One should look up to people of virtue.

別賢愚恕無識하라.

어진 사람과 어리석은 사람을 분별하고 무식한 사람을 꾸짖지 말고 용서하라.

One should distinguish between benevolent people and foolish ones and be forgiving instead of scolding ignorant people.

身未遇而物望하고,

내 몸 대우 없음에 구태여 섭섭해 하지 아니하고,

Even though one meets with unfair treatment, do not sorry for it.

依勢禍相隨니라.

세력을 믿고 그것에 의존하면 재앙이 따를 것이니라.

If one depends upon force, there will mutual conflicts and trouble follows.

僞不節而亡家하고,

절약하지 않으면 집안이 망하고,

If one does not economize, the house keeping will be ruined.

因不廉而失位니,

청렴하지 않으면 지위를 잃게 되니,

And if one is not be of integrity, one will lose one's social position.

勸君子警於平生하노라.

그대에게 평생을 두고 스스로 조심해서 지킬 것을 권하노라.

I dare advise you to bear in mind this in admiration and wonder forever throughout your life.
